Support Is a Two-Way Street

What You Need to Know

The goal of H.O.W. is to encourage those in recovery, and those seeking recovery, through prayer, scripture, service, education, fellowship, and Christian love in a support group setting.

The H.O.W. group is not a 12-step program. It is a confidential support group for people 18 or older who are seeking to gain or maintain sobriety. Meetings are bi-monthly on the first and third Friday of every month from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

H.O.W. group is a supplement to professional counseling, and other organized programs. It is a bible-oriented group of people with a history of substance abuse. We provide materials such as Bibles, AA and NA books, lists of local AA and NA meetings, and information on how to contact licensed professionals who can direct participants to programs which fit that individual’s needs.

H.O.W. group is a place for those searching to connect to people who have struggled, and continue to struggle, with similar issues.

The group topics are based on the needs of the group. Every meeting will begin with prayer. Participants will be asked to provide a method of contact (email, phone number, etc.), a personal bi-weekly goal, a prayer request, and something that they would like to learn more information about as it pertains to their sobriety.

Outside speakers will be invited to discuss topics related to substance abuse. Discussions will incorporate scripture, and use of other materials from 12-step programs.

During the interim period between meetings, group leaders and facilitators will follow up with fellow participants regarding their prayer requests, goals, and educational needs. This will provide accountability within the group, weekly encouragement, and a sense of purpose and belonging to all those involved.

Sin is ugly and harmful. It comes in all shapes and forms, and separates people from God (Isaiah 59:2). Substance abuse, whether it is alcohol, legal or illegal drugs, is a problem that effects so many Christian and non-Christian families. It destroys lives, careers, marriages, friendships, physical health, and ultimately destroys an individual’s soul if left unchecked (Romans 6:23).

Substance abuse is embarrassing. H.O.W. group seeks to provide a Biblical pathway in a non-judgmental and confidential setting for people to lean on and encourage one another, to let them know that they are not alone, and have fellow brothers and sisters to bear their burden (Hebrews 3:13).

This support group does not qualify to be counted toward meeting counts for other programs or court requirements. It is an additional opportunity to spiritually connect with others who relate to addiction struggles.
